Mark sets pace for Captain Prize Play Off.

110 members took part in Captain Seamus O Briens Captains Prize Qualifier last Sunday. With conditions almost perfect but pins in difficult positions some great scores were recorded. The format was 18 holes singles stroke with the first 25 and equals to qualify for an 18 hole play off next Sunday with first tee off at 1.00 PM. Mark Phelan(21) is the leading qualifier with a nett. 64. T J Coughlan (9) and Paul Whelan (5) both had 67 nett with Anthony McCormack (11) in fourth place on 68 nett. With the cut off at nett 74 twenty nine players qualified for the play off next Sunday afternoon. All qualifiers are asked to contact the clubhouse for their tee time next Sunday. Last Sundays qualifier was also a GOY and monthly medal. Medal winners were M. Phelan (21) 64. T J Coughlan (9) 67Anthony McCormack(11) 68 and Barry O Connell(15) 70. Aisling wins Captains Prize

Lady Captain Kathleen Lanigan held her Lady Captains Day last Sunday week. The competition was a single stroke which was followed by a meal and presentation of prizes in the clubhouse. In spite of all the recent rain conditions were very good. Aisling Costello(28) emerged as winner with a nett 76. Results:- 1. Aisling Costello, 2. Sophie O Grady, 3. Josie O Gorman. Best Gross Carmel Fennelly. F9 Chloe O Grady. B9 Kathleen Lanigan, Nearest To Pin Sophie O Grady. At the presentation of prizes lady captain Kathleen Lanigan thanked all who took part and congratulated the prize winners. She also complimented greenkeeper Edward Power on the magnificent condition of the course.

The date has been set for the second round of the Club Doubles. All rounds must be completed by 15^th August. The next round of the Club Singles must be played by 31^st July. Player’s on top are reminded that they must arrange the fixture.

Stage set for qualifying round of Captains Prize

The qualifying round for Seamus O’Brien’s Captains Prize will take place on Sunday 15^th July. Currently, currently there are over 80 golfers registered and a full time sheet is expected. Members who have not registered for the competition should do so as soon as possible. Registration will close at 6pm sharp on Thursday. A draw for teams will take place at 5pm on Friday. Members should call the golf shop on Saturday to obtain their exact tee-time.

The format will be an 18 hole single stroke competition. The top twenty five and equal teams will qualify for the main event the following Sunday. For non qualifiers there will be an 18 hole Single Stableford.

Lady’s Captains Prize

Lady Captain Kathleen Lanigan, will host her Captains Prize on Sunday 15^th July. The competition will commence at 12.30pm. All lady members are asked to put their names on the timesheet as soon as possible. A dinner and presentation of prizes will be hosted on Sunday evening in the clubhouse.

Member’s scoop Ballyhale Shamrocks Classic

45 teams took part in the 15^th Annual Ballyhale Shamrocks Golf Classic last weekend. While the weather was not playing its part on Friday, Saturday conditions were excellent. Local members, Frank Costelloe, daughter Aisling Costelloe, John Byrne and Shane Timmons led the way to win the event. At the prize giving on Saturday night, Michael Fennelly of Ballyhale Shamrocks thanked all who took part and supported the event. Michael commented on the excellent condition of the course at the moment and how great it was playing, resulting in very tight scoring.

Last weekend 65 members took part in the 4 clubs in the bag single stableford. Popular Wexford man Michael J Ryan playing off 23 emerged the winner on a count back with 40 Pts. Last years winner Willie Grace (6) was second.

Four clubs in the bag.

This weekend the club are running a Singles Stableford where each player is only allowed four clubs in the bag including the putter. This event proved very popular last year where Willie Grace was the winner on 43 Pts. The competition can be played on Saturday or Sunday.
